I started working with my students to created digital NGSS models earlier this year. And, in this short time I have learn a lot about what to do. And, what not to do. For example, I have decided that Google Slides is my favorite tool for creating digital models.
Video Tutorial: Creating NGSS Models Using Google Slides ™
I created this video tutorial for you to use in your classroom. This video tutorial walks students through the four basic skills that they need to know how to do in order to build a digital models. These skills are:
- Zooming In and Out
- Creating Shapes and Lines
- Adding Color
- Rearrange Layers
Once students have mastered these skills, they can create a model about any system, process or event using the simple tools provided in Google Slides™. To find out how, check out the video below.
Scaffolds for Creating Digital Models
In the video, I used one of my digital scaffolds to help provide structure to the modeling process. This resource includes several other graphic organizers, a reference sheet that explains the modeling process to students and sentence frames to assist students in their conversations about models.
